How To Pop Popcorn![]() TO: Those customers who have never had the opportunity to pop raw popcorn on the stove (or have forgotten), here are five simple steps to increase your chances of successfully popping a bowl full of the best tasting popcorn on the planet. Strategy: To supply sufficient heat to each popcorn kernel that is evenly distributed to produce maximum explosion. This is accomplished by using a good quality oil such as, olive, coconut, or peanut. While corn or other vegetable oil can be used, poorer results can be expected. The following instructions are based upon using a 6-quart pan (about 9” in diameter and 5 ½” deep), any other size of pan, you will need to make the necessary adjustments. Step 1 – Coat the bottom of the pan with oil (1/4 cup). Step 2 – Add 2/3 cup of popcorn kernels. There should be only a single layer of kernels across the bottom of the pan. Swirl the kernels around so each kernel is completely covered with oil. Step 3 – Place lid over the pan and turn stove top burner to low – medium heat for 5 minutes. During this time, the kernels should slowly heat up to around 300 degrees (F) and no kernels should have popped. Step 4 – After 5 minutes, turn burner to medium-high heat. Let the kernels cook while shaking the pan every 30 seconds to prevent burning. Within 2-3 minutes, the heat should be approaching 600 degrees (F) and the kernels should be popping. And within 2 minutes, all kernels should have popped. When popping slows to 3 to 5 seconds between pops, removed pan from the burner. Step 5 – Immediately, pour popcorn into a bowl and then add salt and other flavorings as desired. Now you are ready to enjoy the best tasting popcorn on the planet. |
